Lebanon Reports Eight Dead In Tyre Strike As Israel Continues Attacks On Southern Region
Eight killed in Tyre strike as Israel continues attacks in southern Lebanon.
At least eight people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern Lebanese city of Tyre on Tuesday, according to Lebanon’s health ministry, as Israel continued intensified military operations targeting areas linked to Hezbollah amid escalating cross-border hostilities. The strike came shortly after the Israeli military issued an evacuation warning for the entire city, including the Christian quarter and nearby neighbourhoods. Residents were urged to leave immediately and move north of the Zahrani River, approximately 30 kilometres away, as Israel expanded its declared combat zone in southern Lebanon.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic following the warning, with residents fleeing Tyre in large numbers. An AFP correspondent in the city described heavy traffic heading north, while another in the nearby coastal city of Sidon reported an influx of displaced families arriving with belongings hastily secured on vehicles. The developments marked one of the largest displacement movements from the area in recent days. The escalation comes amid ongoing Israeli strikes across southern Lebanon, where Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported attacks on more than a dozen locations.
The military campaign is part of Israel’s broader operations against Hezbollah, which has been engaged in cross-border hostilities since the conflict intensified earlier this year. Lebanese authorities have reported that Israeli attacks since March have killed more than 3,600 people and displaced over one million residents, underscoring the scale of the humanitarian crisis in the region. The latest strike on Tyre adds to growing concerns about civilian safety as military operations expand deeper into populated areas. The Israeli military has repeatedly targeted Tyre since the outbreak of the current phase of conflict, which began after Hezbollah launched rocket fire into Israel in early March in support of its ally Iran.

The situation has since evolved into a broader regional confrontation involving multiple fronts and actors. Tensions have been further heightened by warnings from Tehran, which has stated it could resume direct attacks on Israel if strikes on Lebanon continue. Iran has also insisted that any potential ceasefire or settlement must include Lebanon as part of broader regional negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. As the fighting intensifies, humanitarian agencies continue to warn of worsening conditions for civilians caught in the conflict zone, particularly in southern Lebanon where evacuation orders and airstrikes have forced widespread displacement and disrupted access to essential services.
