Virat Kohli and Eknath Shinde Connect in London to Discuss Sports and Infrastructure

Indian cricket star Virat Kohli met Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in London on Friday during a courtesy meeting that focused on sports, infrastructure and various welfare initiatives undertaken by the state government. The meeting brought together one of India’s most prominent sporting figures and a senior Maharashtra politician, with Shinde later describing Kohli as a “down-to-earth” person and expressing his happiness over the interaction. Speaking after the meeting, Shinde said Kohli met him after learning that the deputy chief minister was in London.

He described the visit as a goodwill meeting and said he was pleased that a cricketer of Kohli’s stature had taken the time to meet him. Shinde also highlighted Kohli’s record as one of India’s most prolific batters, while praising his humility during their conversation. According to Shinde, the two had met previously, but their direct discussion in London was particularly memorable. The deputy chief minister said Kohli himself remarked that the scale of development witnessed in Maharashtra in recent years was unprecedented. Among the infrastructure projects discussed were the proposed “Third Mumbai” development near the airport, the Atal Setu, the Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Mahamarg and the coastal road. Shinde also spoke about the expansion of metro infrastructure and government initiatives in sectors such as schools and healthcare.
