Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Eyes IPL Title for Rajasthan Royals After U-19 World Cup Triumph

Teen batting prodigy targets IPL title after stunning U-19 World Cup heroics for India.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, one of India’s most promising young batting talents, has set his sights on helping Rajasthan Royals win the upcoming Indian Premier League title after an extraordinary rise through youth cricket and the IPL. Speaking on the sidelines of the BCCI Naman Awards, the teenage prodigy said his primary objective this season is to contribute to his team’s success and ultimately secure the coveted IPL trophy for the franchise.

Vaibhav, who became an Under-19 World Cup champion at just 14, has rapidly emerged as one of the most exciting young batters in Indian cricket. Earlier this year, he played a crucial role in India’s triumph at the ICC Under‑19 Cricket World Cup, smashing a remarkable 175 runs off 80 balls in the final against England Under‑19 cricket team in Harare. His explosive knock helped India clinch a record-extending sixth Under-19 World Cup title and further cemented his reputation as a generational batting talent.

The youngster had already grabbed global attention during the previous IPL season when he became the tournament’s youngest centurion. His fearless strokeplay and composure under pressure impressed fans and cricket experts alike, positioning him as one of the most exciting prospects to watch in the coming years. Reflecting on his goals, Vaibhav said he wants his individual performances to directly translate into victories for the Rajasthan Royals during the upcoming campaign.

“It is very important for the team to win the trophy,” he said during the interaction with broadcaster Star Sports. “I want to perform well so that my contribution helps the team win matches. My aim this season is to contribute to Rajasthan Royals’ victories and help the franchise lift the trophy.” His comments underline a team-first approach despite his meteoric rise at such a young age.

Vaibhav also recalled his journey with the Rajasthan Royals scouting team, which had closely tracked his progress through domestic and Under-19 tournaments. The franchise eventually signed him in 2024 for ₹1.1 crore, making him the youngest player ever to secure an IPL contract at the age of 13. The Bihar-born cricketer said his early trials with the Royals had gone well and gave him confidence that the team would provide the right environment to grow.

The teenager further credited senior players and mentors for shaping his development, particularly legendary former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid. He described his first IPL training camp as a memorable learning experience, where interactions with experienced teammates and guidance from Dravid helped him improve his game. As he prepares for another IPL season, Vaibhav hopes to build on those lessons and continue his rapid ascent in international and franchise cricket.
