A 27-year-old groom was shot dead by unidentified assailants while he was travelling to his wedding ceremony in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday evening, in a shocking incident that has triggered panic and a large-scale police investigation.

The incident took place near Bibipur village under the Khetasarai police station area around 7 pm, when the groom, Azad Bind, a resident of Badaur village under Sarai Khwaja police station limits, was heading towards his wedding venue along with his wedding procession. According to police, the attack was carried out in a sudden and coordinated manner by masked, bike-borne attackers.

Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Srivastava said the assailants intercepted the groom’s vehicle on the road, overtook it, and opened fire multiple times. The firing was directed specifically at the groom, leaving him critically injured in the attack. The sudden assault caused chaos among those accompanying the procession.

Eyewitnesses and family members immediately rushed the injured groom to the district hospital in a desperate attempt to save him. However, doctors at the facility declared him dead on arrival. The news of his death spread quickly, causing panic and grief among relatives and villagers who had gathered for the wedding.

Following the incident, local police reached the spot and cordoned off the area to begin initial investigation procedures. Forensic teams were also deployed to collect physical evidence from the scene, including bullet casings and other forensic material that may help identify the attackers.

Police officials stated that multiple teams have been formed to trace the unidentified assailants, and raids are being conducted in nearby areas. CCTV footage from surrounding locations is also being examined as part of the investigation to track the movement of the attackers before and after the incident.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the motive behind the killing. Investigators are exploring several angles, including personal enmity, local disputes, or any possible targeted attack. However, no conclusive evidence has been found so far, and officials have urged restraint until the investigation progresses further.

The killing has left the local community in shock, as the wedding celebration turned into a scene of tragedy within moments. Police have assured that all efforts are being made to identify and arrest those responsible at the earliest, while maintaining security in the area to prevent any further disturbances.As the investigation continues, officials say more details are expected to emerge once suspects are identified and interrogated, potentially shedding light on the circumstances that led to the fatal attack.
