Tiger Woods Arrested for Driving Under Influence After Crash

Tiger Woods arrested on DUI charges following car crash in Florida.

Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested on Friday after being involved in a rollover car crash near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida, and charged with driving under the influence (DUI), local authorities said. The 50‑year‑old golfer’s vehicle overturned following a high‑speed attempt to overtake another vehicle, prompting law enforcement to detain him on suspicion of impairment.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported that Woods was driving his Land Rover on a narrow road around 2 p.m. when he tried to pass a truck pulling a pressure‑cleaning trailer. His vehicle clipped the trailer and rolled onto its side, though Woods was uninjured and managed to exit through the passenger side.

At the crash scene, officers found that Woods registered a zero on a breathalyzer test, indicating no alcohol in his system, but they believed he exhibited signs of impairment from some other substance — potentially medication or drugs. Authorities said he refused a urinalysis test, which under Florida law resulted in an additional charge for refusal to submit to a lawful test alongside the DUI and property damage allegations.

Sheriff John Budensiek held a news briefing describing the circumstances of the incident and the subsequent arrest, emphasizing that Woods displayed indications of impairment at the scene. The arrest carries misdemeanor charges that could lead to fines, license penalties, or other legal consequences if he is convicted. Under Florida law, individuals charged with DUI must remain in custody for a mandatory minimum period before eligibility for release on bond.

This is not the first time Woods has faced legal issues related to impaired driving. In 2017, he was arrested on DUI charges in Florida after police found him asleep in his car and later acknowledged taking prescription medications that could have affected his condition; that case resulted in probation and community service. Woods was also seriously injured in a 2021 high‑speed crash in California that required significant leg surgery and sidelined him from professional golf.

The arrest comes as Woods — a 15‑time major champion with 82 PGA Tour wins and widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers in history — has been playing a limited schedule due to recurring injuries. His status for upcoming tournaments, including the 2026 Masters, has been uncertain, and this latest incident adds new questions about his personal and professional future.
