Supreme Court Clears Lakshya Sen in Forgery Case

Lakshya Sen Freed from Forgery Case

In a major relief for badminton sensation Lakshya Sen, the Supreme Court on July 28, 2025, quashed an FIR accusing him, his family, and coach U Vimal Kumar of forging his birth certificate. Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Aravind Kumar ruled that continuing the criminal proceedings was unwarranted and constituted an abuse of the court process, overturning a Karnataka High Court order from February 19, 2025, which had called for an investigation.

The case originated from a private complaint by M G Nagaraj, who alleged that Lakshya Sen, his parents Dhirendra and Nirmala Sen, brother Chirag Sen, coach U Vimal Kumar, and a Karnataka Badminton Association employee falsified birth records.

The Supreme Court, after issuing notices to the Karnataka government and Nagaraj, found no merit in prolonging the case against the 23-year-old Olympian, known for his bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This ruling allows Sen, a rising star in Indian badminton, to focus on his career without the shadow of legal proceedings.
