Shreyas Iyer Provides Latest Injury Update, Avoids Speculation

Shreyas Iyer gives cautious update on injury status.

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer provided a guarded injury update on Wednesday after suffering a wrist blow during his team’s IPL 2026 clash against the Gujarat Titans, saying he didn’t want to “jinx anything” as he assesses the injury that briefly sidelined him in the tense match.

The incident occurred during the PBKS chase when a ferocious drive by debutant Cooper Connolly struck Iyer’s wrist while he was at the non‑striker’s end in the 12th over of the game. Iyer visibly winced in pain and required immediate medical attention from team physios on the field before continuing briefly at the crease.

After PBKS sealed a three‑wicket win, Iyer spoke to reporters during the post‑match presentation about the scare. “All I can say about the hand is that it is nice, same as it was before, I do not want to jinx anything,” he stated, choosing a cautiously optimistic tone rather than offering a definitive prognosis on his wrist.

The update will provide some reassurance to Punjab supporters, given Iyer’s importance as both a top‑order batter and captain. He has battled injuries in recent seasons, including a previously acknowledged hand issue, making his fitness a key factor for his continued availability in the tournament.

While Iyer’s individual innings was cut short — he scored 18 before being dismissed — his leadership was evident as Punjab navigated a middle‑order dip to chase down the target. Connolly’s unbeaten 72 off 44 balls was the defining performance that carried PBKS to victory.

Team management has indicated that Iyer’s condition will be monitored in the coming days. Early signs suggest a positive outlook, but the skipper and the franchise appear intent on balancing prudence with optimism as they prepare for their next IPL fixture.
