Sanju Samson compares MS Dhoni to Roger Federer and Virat Kohli to Carlos Alcaraz.

India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has drawn interesting comparisons between some of cricket's biggest names and leading tennis stars, likening former India captain MS Dhoni to Roger Federer and comparing Virat Kohli's aggressive style to that of Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz. Speaking ahead of Wimbledon, Samson reflected on the similarities between the two sports and highlighted the qualities that make certain athletes stand out across generations and disciplines.

When asked who he considered the "Roger Federer of cricket," Samson named MS Dhoni without hesitation. According to the Rajasthan Royals captain, Dhoni's calm demeanour, composure under pressure and effortless execution closely resemble the qualities that defined Federer's legendary tennis career. Samson noted that Dhoni's performances often appeared smooth and controlled, yet remained remarkably effective and powerful, a characteristic many tennis fans associate with the Swiss great.

Samson also compared Virat Kohli to reigning tennis star Carlos Alcaraz, pointing to similarities in their energetic and attacking styles. He said Alcaraz's explosiveness on the court reminded him of Kohli's early years in international cricket, when the former India captain established himself as one of the most aggressive and dynamic batters in the world. Samson described both athletes as highly competitive performers capable of changing the course of a contest through their intensity and skill.

The wicketkeeper-batter also reflected on India's recent World Cup successes, recalling how the women's team's historic ODI World Cup triumph inspired the men's side. Samson said the entire country celebrated the achievement and that it created a belief within the men's squad that they too could achieve similar success. He added that seeing the women lift the trophy set high standards and provided additional motivation ahead of the men's own World Cup campaign.

Discussing the Indian women's team currently competing in the T20 World Cup, Samson acknowledged the challenge posed by Australia, one of the most successful teams in the history of international cricket. He said Australian teams were the benchmark during his childhood and earned immense respect because of their sustained dominance. However, he added that India now approaches such contests with the confidence and mindset of world champions rather than underdogs.

Former India tennis player Rohan Bopanna also shared his thoughts ahead of Wimbledon, predicting Jannik Sinner as the favourite for the men's singles title and Elena Rybakina as a strong contender for the women's crown. Reflecting on his own career, Bopanna described Wimbledon as a dream tournament and recalled the privilege of competing during an era dominated by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. He said sharing locker rooms and courts with the tennis legends remains one of the most memorable experiences of his sporting journey.
