Raksha Khadse Leads CWG 2030 Fit India Cycling Event In Guwahati

Raksha Khadse leads CWG 2030 themed cycling event promoting fitness and youth engagement.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati campus on Sunday hosted a special Commonwealth Games 2030-themed edition of the nationwide “Fit India Sundays on Cycle” initiative, bringing together students, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts in a large-scale celebration of sports and wellness. The event was led by Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse and marked the 75th edition of the fitness drive under the Fit India Movement.

The programme was organised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Regional Centre, Guwahati, in collaboration with IIT Guwahati, and formed part of a nationwide campaign highlighting India’s preparations and enthusiasm for hosting the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad. Participants took part in cycling rallies, fitness activities, and awareness programmes aimed at promoting active lifestyles and community participation in sports.

Addressing the gathering, Raksha Khadse highlighted the importance of the Fit India Movement, which was launched under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She noted that initiatives like “Sundays on Cycle” are helping build a stronger culture of fitness across the country while encouraging youth to actively engage in sports and wellness activities. She also appreciated the participation of students and citizens despite challenging weather conditions.

The event also featured cultural and sporting showcases, including yoga sessions and a Thang-Ta martial arts performance, reflecting the rich cultural and sporting traditions of the Northeast. Olympian and Commonwealth Games medallist Jayanta Talukdar, along with medal-winning judoka Sushila Devi Likmabam, interacted with participants and shared their experiences of representing India at the international level.

A special exhibition highlighting India’s sporting progress was also organised, showcasing achievements under the Khelo India Mission, expansion of sports infrastructure, and the country’s growing presence in global sporting events. Winners of quizzes and drawing competitions conducted by SAI Guwahati were felicitated during the programme, adding a competitive and educational dimension to the celebrations.

The nationwide edition of “Fit India Sundays on Cycle” saw participation across more than 8,000 locations, reinforcing its status as one of India’s largest community fitness initiatives. Officials said the programme continues to promote cycling, wellness, and active lifestyles, while also symbolising India’s broader ambitions as an emerging global sporting power ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2030.
