Punjab Police Conduct Searches at Majithia's Residence in Majitha Station Attack Case
The Punjab Police raided the SAD leader's home after a mob stormed the Majitha Police Station forcefully.
Punjab Police on Monday carried out search operations at the residence of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia in connection with an investigation into an alleged attack on the Majitha Police Station in Amritsar district. The searches are part of a wider probe launched after a group of individuals reportedly entered the police station and attempted to free an accused who had been taken into custody. The incident has sparked political controversy and intensified law enforcement efforts in the region.
According to police officials, the case stems from the arrest of an accused identified as Jobanpreet in connection with a criminal matter registered at Majitha Police Station on May 30. Authorities said the accused was being interrogated when a large crowd gathered outside the police station on the morning of the incident. Investigators allege that the gathering was not spontaneous and formed part of a pre-planned effort to secure the accused’s release from police custody.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sohail Mir stated that the crowd allegedly entered the police station premises without authorization and moved through several rooms while searching for the detained individual. Police claim that members of the group eventually reached the interrogation area, where they allegedly threatened officers and attempted to forcibly remove the accused. Authorities also alleged that some case-related documents were damaged during the disturbance.
Police officials said senior officers, including the station house officer and deputy superintendent of police, arrived at the scene and attempted to defuse the situation. According to the police version, officers managed to regain control and prevent the accused from being taken away. The individual was subsequently returned to the lockup, and security arrangements around the police station were strengthened following the incident.
A criminal case has been registered in connection with the alleged attack, and investigators have launched raids to identify and apprehend all those involved. Police have named six accused in the case so far and indicated that additional suspects may be identified as the investigation progresses. Officials stated that evidence is being reviewed to determine the roles played by various individuals during the incident.
The case has acquired political significance after police alleged that SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia was present as part of the crowd during the confrontation. Authorities have included his name in the ongoing investigation, although no formal conclusions have been announced. Majithia has not publicly responded to the allegations. The investigation remains ongoing, with police maintaining that further arrests and legal action may follow based on the evidence collected.
