'Proud Moment for Indian Hockey': PM Modi Celebrates India's Asia Cup 2025 Victory

India Trounces South Korea 4-1 in the Asia Cup 2025 Final

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Indian men’s hockey team for their triumphant 4-1 victory over defending champions South Korea in the Asia Cup 2025 final on September 7, 2025, at Rajgir, Bihar.

This win marked India’s fourth Asia Cup title, following successes in 2003, 2007, and 2017, and secured a direct qualification for the 2026 FIH World Cup in Belgium and Netherlands.

Taking to X, PM Modi wrote, “Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team for their splendid win in the Asia Cup 2025 held in Rajgir, Bihar. This win is even more special because they have defeated the defending champions, South Korea! This is a proud moment for Indian hockey and Indian sports.” He also praised Bihar’s efforts in hosting a stellar tournament, noting its emergence as a vibrant sporting hub.

Led by captain Harmanpreet Singh, India maintained an unbeaten record, with five wins and a draw. Dilpreet Singh’s brace, alongside goals from Sukhjeet Singh and Amit Rohidas, sealed the clinical performance. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya lauded the team’s “outstanding performance,” while Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called it an “extremely joyful and proud moment,” highlighting India’s World Cup qualification.

Hockey India announced a cash reward of Rs 3 lakh for each player and Rs 1.5 lakh for support staff, reflecting the nation’s pride in the team’s dominance.
