PM Modi Celebrates Nari Shakti as India’s Economic Powerhouse
PM Modi praises women’s economic empowerment and self-help groups on Independence Day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort spotlighting the transformative role of women, or nari shakti, in driving the country’s economic and social progress. “Every sector now proudly acknowledges the strength of our nari shakti,” Modi declared, emphasizing that women are not only beneficiaries but also key drivers of India’s rising economy.
From startups and the space sector to sports and the armed forces, he noted, “Our daughters are making their mark, standing shoulder to shoulder in the country’s journey of development.” He recalled the nation’s pride when the first batch of women cadets graduated from the National Defence Academy, marking a historic milestone.
Modi highlighted the success of women’s self-help groups (SHGs), which have transitioned from the margins to a driving force in entrepreneurship and exports, generating business worth “lakhs of crores” with products reaching global markets. “Nobody paid attention to women self-help groups, but in the past 10 years, they have done wonders,” he said. He also praised the NaMo Drone Didi initiative, sharing a story of a rural woman who gained recognition as a “pilot,” reflecting newfound dignity and opportunity despite limited education.
The Prime Minister celebrated the Lakhpati Didi initiative, aimed at enabling three crore women to earn over one lakh rupees annually, announcing that two crore women have already achieved this status, with the target set to be met ahead of schedule. With several Lakhpati Didis present as special guests at the Red Fort, Modi underscored their role in energizing India’s development.
Modi also highlighted efforts to promote local talent, citing the growth of India’s toy industry, now exporting globally, as a testament to self-reliance. These initiatives align with the vision of Naya Bharat and Viksit Bharat by 2047, positioning women as central to India’s economic and cultural ascent.
