New DDA Sports Complex Opens In Rohini; Delhi L-G Announces Hockey Tournament
New Rohini complex to host hockey cup from October 9.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Thursday inaugurated a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) sports complex in Rohini and announced that the L-G Cup for Hockey will be held from October 9 to 18. The initiative is aimed at encouraging young athletes and promoting greater participation in team sports, particularly hockey.
The sports complex, located in Sector 33 of Rohini, has been developed across around 8.11 hectares, with a built-up area of approximately 10,974 square metres. The facility is intended to provide improved sporting infrastructure to residents of Rohini, outer Delhi and adjoining parts of North-West Delhi. The hockey tournament is expected to provide young players an opportunity to participate in organised competitive sport.
During his visit, Sandhu also visited the DDA's Aarambh Library in Sector 11, Rohini, where he interacted with students preparing for various competitive examinations. He spoke about discipline, consistency and determination, while listening to students discuss their preparation routines and challenges. He also said the library would be expanded by using an upper floor and creating more than 40 additional seats in response to demand from students.

Sandhu later shared details of the interaction on social media, encouraging aspirants to remain positive and consistent in their preparation. He emphasised perseverance and urged students to treat setbacks as part of their journey towards achieving their goals. The library has become a popular study facility among students and civil services aspirants in the area.
The sports complex inauguration and library visit came amid the L-G's recent focus on facilities and safety concerns affecting students in Delhi. On Wednesday, Sandhu chaired a meeting with principals of Delhi University women's colleges, DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh and senior officials from Delhi Police, the Transport Department, Public Works Department, DDA and Delhi Metro to review security arrangements around campuses and transit routes.
Following the meeting, Sandhu directed authorities to strengthen street lighting, CCTV coverage and police patrolling around colleges, besides deploying dedicated Nodal Police Officers and Pink Booths near campuses. Colleges raised concerns including unsafe last-mile connectivity, e-rickshaws, encroached footpaths, inadequate lighting, dark spots, unregulated vending and safety around parks and public facilities. The meeting followed his visits to Daulat Ram College and Indraprastha College, along with a surprise inspection of Bonta Park on September 25.
