Mohsin Naqvi Speaks Out After PM Meeting Amid T20 World Cup Controversy
Pakistan Cricket Board chief addresses speculation following high-level discussions.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi finally addressed the media after his closed-door meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, amid swirling rumours over Pakistan’s preparations and participation in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The discussions, held amid reports of internal disagreements on team selection, coaching decisions, and logistical planning, had fuelled intense speculation in Pakistani cricket circles about potential major shake-ups.
Emerging from the Prime Minister’s office, Naqvi chose his words carefully while reaffirming the PCB’s commitment to national pride and performance on the global stage. “The meeting with the Prime Minister was constructive and focused entirely on how we can best serve Pakistan cricket and bring honour to the country in the T20 World Cup,” he stated. He dismissed suggestions of any rift or directive to overhaul the current setup, insisting that all conversations centred on unity, strategy, and giving the team every possible resource to succeed as defending champions.
The T20 World Cup row reportedly stems from concerns over recent team performances, player availability due to foreign league commitments, and questions about the direction under the current captaincy and coaching staff. Pakistan’s mixed results in bilateral series and the need to defend their 2022 title on home-like conditions have intensified scrutiny. Naqvi emphasised that the PCB remains fully aligned with government support and that no drastic changes are imminent ahead of the tournament.

He highlighted ongoing preparations, including domestic talent scouting, fitness regimes, and strategic planning sessions, while appealing to fans and critics alike to rally behind the national side. “Our focus is singular—winning for Pakistan. All stakeholders are working together, and we will reveal more concrete plans in due course,” Naqvi added, signalling confidence despite the external noise.
The statement comes at a critical juncture as Pakistan aims to rebuild momentum and quieten doubts before the marquee event. With the meeting now publicised through Naqvi’s comments, attention shifts back to on-field results and whether the Men in Green can translate high-level backing into tournament success.
