Mansukh Mandaviya Addresses Indian Athletes Ahead of Commonwealth Games 2026

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya has encouraged the Indian contingent competing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to participate with confidence, passion, and determination. Addressing athletes ahead of their events, Mandaviya urged them to focus on giving their best without being burdened by expectations, saying that representing India with pride is as important as winning medals. The Commonwealth Games are being held from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow.
During his visit to Scotland, the Sports Minister interacted with Indian athletes, team officials, and members of the Indian diaspora. He reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening Indian sports and promoting the vision of a fitter and healthier nation. Mandaviya said athletes should approach every competition with a positive mindset, believing that high morale and self-confidence are essential ingredients for success on the international stage.
Addressing the contingent, Mandaviya told the athletes not to compete in a state of fear or panic. He said they carried the blessings and support of 1.4 billion Indians, urging them to perform with passion and fighting spirit. According to the minister, true success is not measured solely by medals but also by the commitment, discipline, and determination displayed while representing the country on the global stage.

The minister also highlighted the continued support extended to athletes by the Central government. Expressing confidence in the team's preparations, Mandaviya said he believed the Indian contingent would perform strongly and bring pride to the nation during the Games.
India has sent a 124-member contingent to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with athletes competing across multiple sporting disciplines. The team will be aiming to build on India's strong performances in previous editions of the Games by challenging for medals in both traditional strengths and emerging events. Expectations remain high as Indian athletes continue to achieve success across international competitions.
