Manchester United Wins an Epic Against Lyon

One of the most dramatic matches in recent times

Make no mistake, it was a football epic. We are talking about Manchester United's Europa League quarterfinal against Olympique Lyon last night. Any match that has the scoreline 5-4 is bound to be monumentally exciting. And this match was particularly so as the eventual winner came in the 121st minute in extra time. As far as last-gap winners go, this would be talked about for years by football fans, particularly United followers as their team won 5-4 win on the night and had a 7-6 aggregate.

The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with United taking an early lead through Manuel Ugarte in the 10th minute, followed by Diogo Dalot doubling the advantage just before halftime. Lyon responded with two quick goals in the second half, courtesy of Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico, levelling the tie and sending the game into extra time.

Extra time saw Lyon take control with goals from Rayan Cherki and Alexandre Lacazette, putting it ahead 4-2. However, United capitalised on Tolisso's late red card in regulation time, mounting a dramatic comeback. Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty to reduce the deficit, Kobbie Mainoo equalised in the 120th minute, and Harry Maguire sealed the victory with a header in the dying seconds of extra time.

Tottenham Hotspur edged past Eintracht Frankfurt with a 1-0 win in Germany, thanks to Dominic Solanke's first-half penalty. Spurs advanced with a 2-1 aggregate victory.

In a nail-biting encounter, Bodo/Glimt eliminated Lazio on penalties after a 3-3 aggregate draw. Lazio won the second leg 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico, with goals from Ciro Immobile, Sergej Milinković-Savić, and Felipe Anderson levelling the tie. However, Bodo/Glimt held its nerve in the penalty shootout, triumphing 3-2 to secure a place in the semifinals. It became the first Norwegian team to reach the last four of a senior UEFA men's club competition.

The semifinals will see Manchester United facing Athletic Bilbao and Tottenham Hotspur taking on Bodo/Glimt.
