Laporta Wins Third Term as Barcelona President With 68% Vote, Flick's Future Now Secured

Laporta wins Barcelona presidency third time with dominant 68 percent vote share.

Joan Laporta has been re-elected as President of FC Barcelona after securing a decisive victory in the club’s presidential election held in Catalonia on Sunday. Laporta defeated challenger Victor Font by a wide margin, earning a third term at the helm of the Catalan football giant. The result reaffirmed the support of the club’s members, known as “socios,” who voted overwhelmingly in favor of continuing Laporta’s leadership during a period of rebuilding and sporting revival.

According to the official results, Laporta received 32,934 votes, representing about 68.18 percent of the ballots cast. Font secured 14,385 votes, accounting for roughly 29.78 percent of the total. Although Font mounted a more competitive campaign compared to previous elections, the final tally still reflected a clear preference among club members for Laporta’s leadership. The outcome ensures continuity in the club’s management strategy as Barcelona seeks to consolidate its sporting and financial recovery in the coming years.

Laporta’s campaign, titled “Defensem al Barça!” or “Let’s Save Barca,” focused on maintaining the current project at the club and strengthening its long-term stability. During his previous term, Laporta faced significant challenges, including financial constraints and the high-profile departure of club legend Lionel Messi. Despite those difficulties, supporters credit Laporta with stabilizing the club’s operations and guiding it through a crucial transitional period.

A key part of that rebuilding effort has been the appointment of Hansi Flick as head coach and Deco as sporting director. Both figures have played an important role in strengthening Barcelona’s football structure and improving the team’s on-field performances. Under their leadership, the club achieved notable success last season, including a domestic treble that helped restore confidence among supporters and stakeholders.

Font’s campaign, branded “Sí al Futur” or “Yes to the Future,” focused on introducing new ideas for the club’s development, particularly increased investment in the renowned youth academy La Masia. Font also advocated bringing former club legends into administrative or technical roles, including the potential return of figures such as Xavi Hernández. He was widely perceived as a candidate who would be open to rebuilding ties with Messi, although the Argentine star chose not to take part in the election process.

Laporta’s campaign also received visible backing from several first-team players, including rising star Lamine Yamal, who publicly showed support during the election period. With Laporta’s re-election confirmed, Barcelona now aims to maintain its momentum under Flick’s management and continue its rebuilding project. The club’s leadership believes that stability at the administrative level will be crucial as Barcelona pursues further domestic and international success in the coming seasons.
