India Bids to Host Historic 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad aims to host the historic 2030 Commonwealth Games.

India has thrown its hat into the ring with a dazzling proposal to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, presented to the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee in London. The delegation, led by Gujarat’s dynamic Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P.T. Usha, showcased a vision that could redefine the future of the Commonwealth Sport Movement.

The year 2030 marks the 100th anniversary of the Commonwealth Games, and India’s bid positions Ahmedabad as the ideal host for this milestone. The Gujarat government’s proposal emphasizes a compact, world-class games footprint, leveraging Ahmedabad’s cutting-edge venues, seamless transport networks, and top-tier accommodation facilities. This bid isn’t just about hosting an event—it’s about creating a legacy that resonates for decades.

India’s proposal aligns with the Commonwealth Games’ “Games Reset” principles, prioritizing affordability, inclusivity, flexibility, and sustainability. The plan integrates para-sport, champions human rights, promotes gender equity, and embeds a long-term legacy framework to benefit athletes, local communities, and the global Commonwealth network. Ahmedabad’s infrastructure, coupled with its vibrant cultural heritage, promises a Games experience that’s both efficient and unforgettable.

“Hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad is a dream for India,” said Minister Sanghavi. “This is more than a sporting event—it’s a catalyst to inspire our youth, accelerate India’s journey toward Viksit Bharat 2047, and strengthen the Commonwealth Movement for the next century.”

P.T. Usha echoed this ambition: “Ahmedabad is ready to take the baton from Glasgow 2026 and set the stage for 2034. Our bid reflects India’s values and capability, ensuring a centenary Games that honors the past while shaping the future.”

Backed by robust support from the Indian government, the Gujarat state government, and the Commonwealth Games Association of India, Ahmedabad’s bid is a bold statement of intent. It promises a Games that’s compact, sustainable, inclusive, and globally impactful—positioning India as a leader in the Commonwealth’s next chapter.
