T20 WC 2026 sets record in India, with 500 million viewers and peak 60.5 million concurrent streams.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has set new viewership records in India, with over 500 million viewers tuning in, marking the highest audience ever for a T20 World Cup in the country, according to ICC chief Jay Shah. The milestone underscores the growing popularity of cricket in India and the global appeal of the shortest international format.
Shah shared his excitement on X, saying the tournament aimed to be “the most global and accessible cricket event ever.” He highlighted that concurrent viewership on JioHotstar peaked at 60.5 million, and expressed hope that the Indian audience’s enthusiasm would help break further records as the knockout stage begins.
On the field, the tournament has delivered intense contests and dramatic turnarounds. The group stage featured 20 teams split into four groups of five, with the top two from each progressing to the Super Eights. Traditional powerhouses such as Australia and Pakistan were tested early, while emerging sides like Zimbabwe and Nepal impressed with spirited performances, showcasing the growing depth of T20 cricket worldwide.

The Super Eights stage further intensified competition, with eight teams — India, Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa, England, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, and Pakistan — split into two groups. Only the top two teams from each group advanced to the semi-finals, with several matches decided on net run rate and thrilling finishes.
The semi-final line-up features India, England, New Zealand, and South Africa, reflecting a mix of experience and consistency. India will face England at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, renewing a historic rivalry, while New Zealand take on South Africa at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. Both fixtures promise high-pressure drama, tactical battles, and explosive batting as a place in the final is at stake.
The ICC’s streaming service has also broken records, particularly during the Super Eight clash between India and the West Indies, surpassing the previous peak set during the 2024 final. Across social media, ICC videos have exceeded 10 billion views, with global engagement on track to surpass 16 billion video views, reflecting the event’s massive digital footprint.
