How to Apply for the ₹25 Lakh National Sports Awards 2025 Before Deadline
Applications open for India’s top sports awards with October 28 deadline.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has officially opened applications for the 2025 National Sports Awards, a prestigious recognition of excellence in Indian sports. Announced on September 30, 2025, the application window will close at 11:59 PM on October 28, 2025. These annual awards, presented by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhawan, celebrate outstanding achievements by athletes, coaches, and sports entities. While the ceremony date remains undisclosed, eligible candidates are encouraged to apply online via the dedicated portal at www.dbtyas-sports.gov.in.
The awards include the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the highest honor, offering a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh, a medallion, and a certificate. The Arjuna Award, the next tier, provides Rs 15 lakh to winners demonstrating exceptional performance over the four years from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2024. Performances in major international events like the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Cup, and World Championships are considered. Additionally, the Arjuna Award (Lifetime) recognizes lifelong contributions to sports development, while the Dronacharya Award honors coaches who have produced medal-winning athletes at global events.
Eligibility criteria are stringent, particularly regarding doping violations. Athletes penalized for doping are eligible only if their ban has concluded, and achievements during the suspension period are excluded. Those with ongoing inquiries are ineligible. A Screening Committee, comprising the Joint Secretary (Sports), Secretary of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and other officials, will review applications from athletes, National Sports Federations (NSFs), and SAI. Only applications clear of vigilance, disciplinary, and doping issues will proceed to the Selection Committee for final evaluation.

Last year’s awards set a high benchmark, with double Olympic-medallist Manu Bhaker, chess world champion D Gukesh, and hockey star Harmanpreet Singh among the Khel Ratna recipients. Notably, 17 para-athletes were included among the 32 Arjuna awardees, reflecting India’s remarkable success at the Paris Paralympics. This year’s awards promise to continue celebrating the nation’s sporting heroes, and eligible candidates are urged to submit their applications promptly to join this esteemed legacy.
