Honda Motorcycle India Sells 5.18 Lakh Units In May 2026, Clocks 12 Percent YoY Growth
HMSI posts 12 percent yearly growth with domestic and export sales rising steadily in May.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) reported strong sales performance in May 2026, registering total sales of 5.18 lakh units and recording a 12 percent year-on-year growth compared to 4.65 lakh units sold during the same month last year. The growth was supported by healthy demand in both domestic and export markets, reinforcing Honda's position as one of India's leading two-wheeler manufacturers. The company's latest sales figures reflect continued consumer confidence in its motorcycle and scooter portfolio across various market segments.
Domestic sales accounted for the majority of the company's performance, reaching 4.59 lakh units in May 2026. This represented a 10 percent increase from the 4.17 lakh units sold in May 2025. Industry observers attribute the growth to steady demand for commuter motorcycles and scooters, along with Honda's extensive dealer and service network that enables the brand to maintain a strong presence across urban and rural markets.
Exports also witnessed significant growth during the month. HMSI shipped approximately 59,000 units to overseas markets in May 2026, compared to around 47,000 units during the corresponding period last year, reflecting a 24 percent year-on-year increase. The export performance highlights the company's growing international footprint and its ability to cater to demand across multiple regions outside India.

Honda stated that its success continues to be supported by a diverse product portfolio and a nationwide network of more than 7,000 customer touchpoints. The company has focused on expanding accessibility and strengthening customer engagement through dealerships, service centers, and sales outlets. This extensive reach has helped HMSI maintain its competitive position in one of the world's largest two-wheeler markets.
To support future growth, Honda had earlier announced plans to expand manufacturing capacity at its Tapukara facility in Rajasthan. In March 2026, the company revealed that it would establish a third production line at its second plant in Alwar district. The new facility is scheduled to become operational in 2028 and will add an annual production capacity of 6.7 lakh units, increasing the plant's total capacity to approximately 20.1 lakh units per year.
The expansion project will involve an investment of around Rs 1,500 crore and the acquisition of nearly 74,000 square meters of adjacent land. The new production line will be capable of manufacturing 125cc and 160cc scooters and lightweight motorcycles, allowing the company to respond to changing market demand more efficiently. Honda estimates that the project will create around 2,000 new jobs while strengthening its long-term manufacturing and growth strategy in India.
