Governor Gehlot Praises Karnataka’s Sporting Revolution at Closing Ceremony of Karnataka Games

Governor hails Congress govt’s world-class sports infrastructure at Karnataka Games closing.

Tumakuru came alive with sporting spirit as Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot delivered an inspiring address at the closing ceremony of the Karnataka Games at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium on Thursday evening. Sharing the stage with Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara and Karnataka Olympic Association chief MLC K Govindaraju, the Governor shifted focus from his brief Assembly speech earlier that day to a detailed appreciation of the state’s sports development. He commended the Congress-led government for building world-class infrastructure and establishing Centres of Excellence through public-private partnerships, aimed at providing scientific training to young talent.

Gehlot emphasized Bengaluru’s transformation into not just an IT powerhouse but also a burgeoning sports capital, driven by holistic vision, strategic planning, and unwavering commitment. He highlighted how focused preparations are underway for international competitions, positioning the state as a nurturing ground for future champions. The Governor encouraged athletes by noting that defeat serves as a valuable teacher, fostering introspection and stronger resolve, while stressing that life resembles a long race with consistent practice, health care, strong character, hard work, and discipline as non-negotiable keys to success.

Touching on modern advancements, Gehlot spoke about the transformative impact of technology in sports, including wearable devices, performance analytics, and AI-based training tools that help athletes optimize fitness and refine strategies. He praised the state’s Youth Empowerment and Sports Policy, along with schemes like the Amrut Sports Adoption Scheme, which treat sports as a serious career option by offering targeted support to promising individuals.

The Governor also outlined incentives such as rewards for medal winners at global events and job reservations for sportspersons. He acknowledged national efforts under the Prime Minister, including Fit India, Khelo India, and Viksit Bharat initiatives that have turned sports into a nationwide movement.

Gehlot elaborated on the National Sports Policy 2025, which envisions India as a top-five global sports powerhouse by 2047. The event celebrated the conclusion of an energetic state-level competition, underscoring Karnataka’s growing prowess in nurturing athletic excellence.
