FIFA World Cup 2026 Broadcast Rights Deal Nears Completion in Key Markets

FIFA nearing completion of 2026 World Cup broadcast rights deal.

The broadcast negotiations for the FIFA World Cup 2026 are reportedly nearing completion for the Indian market, with discussions centring on securing television and digital rights ahead of the tournament’s start. The development comes just weeks before the competition, easing growing uncertainty among Indian football viewers regarding access to one of the world’s most-watched sporting events.

Indian football fans have been increasingly anxious over the absence of a confirmed broadcasting partner, with India remaining one of the few major markets where a deal for the FIFA World Cup 2026 has not yet been officially finalised. The delay has stood out given the tournament’s global scale and India’s expanding sports media ecosystem, where rights agreements for major events are typically concluded well in advance.

According to reported developments, the relevant stakeholders are currently finalising negotiations, with the expected value of the broadcast rights for India estimated to fall in the range of USD 30–35 million. This figure represents a significant reduction from FIFA’s earlier reported valuation of around USD 100 million for the tournament’s broadcasting rights package, highlighting the gap between initial expectations and market demand.

The prolonged impasse has been linked to concerns raised by Indian broadcasters over projected viewership figures. Since several matches in the World Cup, hosted in North America, are expected to air in India during late-night or post-midnight hours, broadcasters have questioned the potential impact on audience engagement and advertising returns, contributing to delays in reaching a final agreement.

Despite earlier uncertainty, sources indicate that FIFA has agreed to a substantial discount to move negotiations forward, bringing the process closer to closure. With discussions now in advanced stages, the broadcast situation for India appears to be stabilising, though an official announcement is still awaited as stakeholders work to finalise the agreement ahead of the tournament.
