England's John Stones Joins Inter Milan On Free Transfer

England defender John Stones has joined Italian champions Inter Milan on a free transfer after ending a successful 10-year spell with Manchester City. The Serie A club announced the signing on Thursday after the 32-year-old became a free agent following the expiry of his contract with the Premier League side at the end of last month. Stones has signed a two-year contract with Inter as he begins a new chapter in his club career.

The experienced centre-back completed the move after representing England at the FIFA World Cup, where the team secured a third-place finish. Stones featured in five matches during the tournament held across the United States, Mexico and Canada, earning his 94th international cap in England's semi-final defeat to Argentina. His performances once again highlighted his importance to the national team despite recent injury setbacks at club level.

Stones enjoyed one of the most successful periods of his career at Manchester City under former manager Pep Guardiola. During his decade at the Etihad Stadium, he won six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, three League Cups and the UEFA Champions League, playing a key role in one of the most dominant eras in the club's history. His composure in possession and defensive versatility made him an integral part of City's success.

However, injuries limited Stones' involvement in recent seasons, restricting him to just nine Premier League appearances during the last campaign. The lack of regular playing time ultimately brought his long association with Manchester City to an end, paving the way for a fresh opportunity in Italian football with the reigning Serie A champions.

Inter Milan will hope Stones' experience and leadership strengthen their defence as they prepare to defend the Serie A title. The England international could make his competitive debut for the club when Inter begin their Scudetto campaign against Monza at the San Siro on August 22. His arrival adds significant experience to the squad as the Italian champions aim for success in both domestic and European competitions.
