CWG 2026 Closing Ceremony To Offer First Look At Ahmedabad 2030

The closing ceremony of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will provide the first official glimpse of Ahmedabad’s preparations to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, as the sporting event moves towards its historic centenary edition. During the ceremony, the Commonwealth Games flag and Host Baton will be formally handed over to Ahmedabad, marking the beginning of the city’s journey as the host of the 2030 edition.
The 2030 Commonwealth Games will be a landmark occasion as the event completes 100 years since its first edition was held in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930. According to the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office, the state government and Ahmedabad are undertaking extensive preparations to organise the prestigious international sporting event and showcase India’s sporting capabilities on the global stage.
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi is attending the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and will be present for the handover ceremony. The presentation will feature a series of cultural performances highlighting the connection between Scotland and India, with the programme designed to introduce global audiences to the vision and cultural identity of Ahmedabad 2030.

A major highlight of the ceremony will be the continuation of the King’s Baton Relay, a long-standing Commonwealth Games tradition symbolising unity among member nations and territories. For the first time in the history of the Games, each of the 74 Commonwealth nations and territories will receive an individual baton that can be customised to represent their unique culture, heritage, and creativity.
The handover ceremony will be presented in three acts, beginning with a special tribute marking the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram. The second act will feature a musical collaboration between Indian sitar maestro Rishabh Rikhiram Sharma and Scottish piper Ross Ainslie, combining Indian classical music with Scottish traditions.
The final act will showcase a visual journey across India, with a special focus on Gujarat and Ahmedabad. Glasgow 2026 officials said the ceremony will reflect the connection between the two host cities while offering audiences a preview of what to expect from Ahmedabad 2030, which will celebrate 100 years of Commonwealth Games history.
