Former Australia fast bowler Brett Lee has paid an emotional tribute to legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle, remembering their unique cross-industry collaboration after her passing at the age of 92 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

Lee reflected on their widely discussed 2007 collaboration, the track “You’re the One for Me,” which brought together cricket and music audiences across the world. The project, recorded in 2006 and later released as part of the album “Asha and Friends,” gained popularity for its unusual pairing of an international cricketer with one of India’s most celebrated vocalists.

In a message shared on social media, Lee described Bhosle as exceptionally kind and humble, saying her warmth left a lasting impression on him. He expressed gratitude for having worked with her and extended condolences to her family, adding that her artistic legacy would continue to inspire generations.

In his autobiography My Life: Brett Lee, the former pacer detailed how the collaboration came about during his visit to India for the 2006 Champions Trophy. He also revealed that he contributed Hindi lines to the track and even wrote lyrics for the song in a short span of time, calling the experience a creative milestone in his life beyond cricket.

Lee further recounted how he kept the recording project private from teammates at the time and later met Bhosle again when she performed in Sydney. He described her as a “gentlewoman” with a strong sense of humour and compared her influence on Indian music to global icons, highlighting her extraordinary career spanning thousands of songs.

Bhosle was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai before passing away on Sunday, marking the end of an era in Indian music. Her death prompted tributes from across the world, with fans, artists, and public figures remembering her immense contribution to Indian playback singing and her decades-long cultural legacy.
