Blessing Muzarabani's Agency Fights PCB's Two-Year PSL Ban; Claims No Formal Contract Ever Issued
Blessing Muzarabani's agency challenges PCB's two-year PSL ban, asserting no formal contract was ever received from Islamabad United.
Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has found himself at the centre of a contractual dispute after his agency publicly challenged the Pakistan Cricket Board over a two-year ban from the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The agency has argued that the decision is unjustified, claiming the player never received a formal contract from franchise Islamabad United before withdrawing from the league.
The controversy stems from Muzarabani’s brief association with Islamabad United, who had announced him as a replacement signing for a reported fee of PKR 11 million after he went unsold in the PSL auction. Shortly after the announcement, however, the fast bowler opted out and instead joined Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman, who had been released earlier.
In response, the PCB accused Muzarabani of unprofessional conduct and alleged breach of contractual obligations, subsequently imposing a two-year ban on his participation in the PSL. The move drew criticism from the player’s representatives at World Sports Xchange, who strongly refuted the claims and described the punishment as excessive and unwarranted given the circumstances.

The agency stated that while Islamabad United had approached Muzarabani regarding participation in the league, no official contract was ever issued to the player. It emphasised that a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Zimbabwe Cricket was a prerequisite for participation, which could not be secured in the absence of formal documentation. Despite this, the franchise proceeded with a public announcement, creating confusion around the player’s status.
Highlighting the sequence of events, the agency noted that even after two weeks from the initial announcement, no contract had been received from either the franchise or the PSL authorities. During this period, Kolkata Knight Riders approached Muzarabani and swiftly finalised his signing, offering clarity and formal agreement. The agency maintained that “you simply cannot breach a contract you have never received,” reiterating that no binding obligation existed.
Calling for a resolution, World Sports Xchange urged the PCB to reconsider its stance and withdraw the ban, describing the situation as an administrative lapse rather than player misconduct. The agency also questioned the proportionality of the punishment, stating that it was inconsistent with penalties imposed in past cases involving actual contractual breaches, and appealed for a more measured and fair approach moving forward.
