BCCI Says ‘Ice Broken’ With PCB Over Asia Cup Trophy Controversy After Dubai Meet

BCCI and PCB break ice in Dubai meet to resolve Asia Cup 2025 trophy handover dispute.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed that discussions have finally begun with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to end the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 trophy dispute. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that he held an informal meeting with PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi on the sidelines of the International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings in Dubai, signaling the first breakthrough in the long-standing standoff.

The controversy erupted after India’s Suryakumar Yadav-led team refused to receive the Asia Cup winner’s trophy from Mohsin Naqvi following their victory against Pakistan in the final. The incident led to tensions between the two boards, with Naqvi reportedly taking the trophy back to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) headquarters in Dubai and instructing staff not to move it without his consent.

Speaking to PTI, Saikia said, “It was not part of the formal agenda, but the ICC mediated a separate meeting between myself and the PCB chief in the presence of senior ICC officials.” He added that while the meeting was not official, it helped both sides reopen dialogue. “It was a good start to negotiations. Both sides participated cordially, and we are confident that a solution will be reached soon,” Saikia said.

Sources indicate that ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khawaja and CEO Sanjog Gupta played key roles in facilitating the interaction between the BCCI and PCB officials. The Asia Cup trophy remains at the ACC’s Dubai office, and discussions are ongoing about how it will officially be handed over to the Indian team.

“The ice has been broken now, and both boards are exploring ways to resolve the issue amicably,” Saikia stated. As diplomatic efforts continue, cricket fans across both nations await the final resolution to one of the most unusual off-field disputes in recent Asia Cup history.
