Anil Kumble Says RCB’s Win Over GT In IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 Was A Statement Performance

Anil Kumble praised RCB’s win over GT in IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 as a statement performance.

Anil Kumble praised Royal Challengers Bengaluru after their dominant 92-run win over Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2026, calling it a “statement performance” that underlined their dominance in knockout cricket. RCB delivered a near-complete all-round display at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, first piling up a record-breaking 254/5 before dismantling GT for 162 to secure a second consecutive IPL final berth.

Kumble highlighted that producing such a massive total in a high-pressure playoff fixture reflected the team’s confidence, clarity, and execution under pressure. Batting first after losing the toss, RCB’s top order set the tone with aggressive intent. Captain Rajat Patidar was the standout performer, smashing an unbeaten 93 off just 39 deliveries, while Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal provided strong support at the top. Kumble noted that while the surface was good for batting, the ability to sustain intent through a playoff match separated RCB from their opponents.

According to Kumble, the game tilted decisively when RCB’s bowlers struck early and never allowed Gujarat Titans’ top order to settle. He pointed out that disciplined lines, consistent pressure from both ends, and a crucial early breakthrough shifted momentum firmly in RCB’s favour. Once GT lost early wickets, they struggled to recover as the chase unraveled quickly. RCB’s bowling attack shared the workload effectively. Jacob Duffy led the charge with a three-wicket haul, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rasikh Salam Dar, and Krunal Pandya chipped in with two wickets each. GT were reduced to 51/5 inside the powerplay, effectively ending the contest well before the middle overs.

Kumble described the outing as one of RCB’s most complete performances of the season, emphasising excellence across all three departments. He said it was not just a win, but a performance that sent a clear message to the rest of the competition. He also reserved praise for captain Rajat Patidar, stating that strong performances in knockout matches significantly enhance a leader’s credibility within the dressing room. According to Kumble, such innings help build trust and reinforce a captain’s authority in high-stakes environments.

Another key factor, Kumble noted, is RCB’s collective contribution rather than reliance on a few individuals. He highlighted that different players stepping up in different matches has been central to their sustained success, creating a balanced and unpredictable unit capable of handling pressure situations. With this victory, RCB secured direct qualification to the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, gaining valuable recovery time and a strong psychological edge heading into the title clash.
