Zero Tolerance to Crime: Chandrababu Naidu Orders Expulsion of Notorious Rowdies

Andhra CM vows zero tolerance against rowdies.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu declared a stringent policy of zero tolerance towards criminal elements during the Collectors’ Conference at the Secretariat on Thursday. He directed authorities to expel notorious offenders from the state, emphasising that rowdyism must be eradicated to ensure effective maintenance of law and order.

Naidu instructed police officials to identify professional rowdies across districts, issue warnings, and invoke the Preventive Detention Act against persistent anti-social elements. He asserted that expulsion remains the ultimate measure for those refusing to reform, while stressing the need to reduce crime rates further and enhance conviction rates despite a recorded 5.5% decline.

The Chief Minister expressed concern over rising property offences in districts such as Kadapa, Alluri Sitarama Raju, and Eluru, alongside incidents related to ganja trade and organised crime in Nellore. He welcomed a 22.5% reduction in crimes against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, directing enhanced focus on curbing offences against women through improved self-defence training and addressing financial frauds.

He also prohibited unnecessary public inconvenience through excessive traffic challans.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan underscored the importance of law and order for achieving a 15% economic growth rate, highlighting the need to curb political involvement in land disputes, particularly in north Andhra industrial areas. Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta reported a decline from 1,10,111 to 1,04,095 criminal cases year-on-year, with a 56% detection rate and ongoing enhancements including a 10,000-camera surveillance dashboard in Vijayawada.
