YSRCP Chief Jagan Exposes ₹250 Crore Urea Scam in Andhra

YSRCP chief accuses Naidu of orchestrating fertiliser black market.

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy unleashed a scathing attack on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, alleging that an artificial shortage of urea has fueled a massive ₹200-250 crore scam in the state. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Jagan accused the ruling administration of deliberately diverting fertiliser supplies to the black market, leaving farmers in distress and driving some to the brink of suicide due to inadequate support prices for their produce.

Jagan claimed that the orchestrated scarcity of urea, a critical agricultural input, has been engineered with the “encouragement and involvement” of Naidu himself. “The fertiliser is being diverted to the black market, creating an artificial crisis that has turned into a scam worth ₹200-250 crore,” he alleged, asserting that the ill-gotten profits are being distributed among the state’s leadership “from top to bottom.” He further criticized the government for failing to support farmers, contrasting it with his YSRCP regime, which he claimed consistently intervened to stabilize commodity prices during market slumps.

The former CM also revealed that YSRCP leaders who protested the urea shortage on Tuesday faced police intimidation, with threats of legal action against them. “Instead of addressing the crisis, the government is suppressing dissent,” Jagan charged. He accused the Naidu administration of mismanaging state resources, pointing to the decision to develop 10 medical colleges under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model as an example of selling off government assets “for peanuts.”

The allegations have intensified the political slugfest in Andhra Pradesh, with farmers caught in the crossfire of the urea crisis. Jagan’s claims have sparked widespread concern, prompting calls for a thorough investigation into the alleged black-market operations and the government’s handling of agricultural support systems.
