Youth Not Disenchanted, Says Haryana CM on Cockroach Janata Party's Viral Rise

Haryana CM dismisses viral Cockroach Janata Party as opposition's manufactured campaign.

Nayab Singh Saini on Monday dismissed claims that India’s youth are becoming politically disenchanted, while criticising the recently launched satirical political platform “Cockroach Janata Party” (CJP). Responding to questions about the online movement and its growing popularity, the Haryana Chief Minister described it as a short-lived campaign allegedly manufactured by the Opposition to create a political narrative ahead of future elections.

Speaking in New Delhi, Saini compared the rise of the Cockroach Janata Party to the Opposition’s “save the Constitution” campaign that gained momentum during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “Cockroach ki ayu kitni hai (what is the lifespan of a cockroach)?” he remarked while addressing the media, suggesting that the platform would fade away quickly. The Chief Minister maintained that the youth remain engaged with development-oriented politics and are not losing faith in the democratic system.

The Cockroach Janata Party, launched by digital strategist Abhijit Dipke, has emerged as a major talking point on social media in recent days. The satirical platform has rapidly attracted online attention through humorous political commentary, memes, and digital campaigns aimed at engaging younger audiences. According to reports, the platform’s Instagram following crossed 22 million within days of its launch, surpassing the combined follower count of both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress on the platform.

The rapid growth of the online collective has sparked debate over the increasing influence of digital satire and social media-driven political engagement in India. While supporters view the platform as a creative expression of youth participation in politics, critics have questioned its intent and long-term relevance. Saini’s remarks reflect the ruling party’s effort to counter suggestions that online movements such as the CJP indicate wider dissatisfaction among young voters ahead of upcoming political contests.
