Yogi Adityanath Warns Against ‘New Jinnahs’ Over Opposition to Vande Mataram

UP CM blasts SP MP over Vande Mataram row.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath sharply criticized a Samajwadi Party MP for opposing the national song “Vande Mataram,” warning that such divisive voices are breeding “new Jinnahs” who threaten India’s unity. Speaking at the ‘Ekta Yatra’ in Gorakhpur on Monday, he invoked historical figures Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Mohammad Ali Jauhar to underscore the dangers of disloyalty to national symbols. Adityanath emphasized that every citizen must demonstrate unwavering loyalty to the nation’s integrity.

The Chief Minister highlighted the resurgence of opposition during events marking the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram.” He accused the SP MP of boycotting celebrations for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel while attending events honoring Jinnah. Such selective reverence, he argued, insults India’s freedom fighters and fuels extremism, Naxalism, and terrorism that constantly challenge the country’s sovereignty.

Adityanath traced the “venom” against the song to 1923, when Jauhar, then Congress president, walked out during its rendition at a party session. He contrasted this with Rabindranath Tagore singing the full song in 1896 and its regular performance at Congress sessions until 1922. The CM asserted that Jauhar’s refusal marked a tragic turning point that contributed to India’s Partition.

He regretted that Congress failed to expel Jauhar and uphold national unity through “Vande Mataram,” claiming the Partition might have been averted. Adityanath declared there is no justification for opposing the song and urged citizens to identify and counter all elements dividing society on caste, regional, or linguistic lines.

Calling for collective vigilance, the Chief Minister vowed to bury any separatist intent before it takes root. He rallied the public to ensure no new Jinnah emerges, stressing unified action to protect India’s identity and honor its revolutionary legacy.
