Wife vs. Husband? Jyoti Singh Goes Solo in Karakat Showdown

Jyoti Singh shakes up Bihar politics with surprise Independent bid in Karakat.

Jyoti Singh, wife of Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh, made a bold political move by filing her nomination as an Independent candidate for the Karakat Assembly constituency in Bihar. Her decision comes days after Pawan Singh announced he would not contest the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, choosing instead to remain a "true soldier" of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which he rejoined earlier this year after a controversial exit in 2024.

Jyoti Singh’s nomination drew significant local support, with a large crowd gathering in Karakat to cheer her on. Her father, Rambabu Singh, attributed her popularity to the strong connection she forged with the constituency while campaigning for her husband during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “The people of Karakat developed a close bond with Jyoti Singh,” he told reporters, highlighting her grassroots engagement. Her candidacy follows a reported meeting with election strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor, though details of their discussion remain undisclosed, fueling speculation about her political strategy.

The move is set against a backdrop of personal and political friction between Jyoti Singh and Pawan Singh, her second husband. Jyoti had publicly accused Pawan of infidelity, sparking a public row that escalated as the election approached, with the couple reportedly clashing over who would contest from Karakat. Jyoti asserted her independence, saying, “I had helped him extensively last time, wearing out my slippers in the area... If I want to contest, I will. I have put in a lot of work and people know it.” Her decision to run as an Independent underscores her determination to carve her own political path.

Pawan Singh’s own political journey has been turbulent. Dropped by the BJP in 2024 due to his controversial image, his rejoining of the party ahead of the 2025 elections marked a comeback. However, his decision to step back from contesting has shifted the spotlight to Jyoti Singh, whose candidacy introduces a new dynamic to Karakat’s electoral landscape. As the Bihar assembly elections draw near, Jyoti Singh’s Independent run promises to be a focal point of intrigue, blending personal resolve with political ambition.
