West Bengal Cabinet Expansion Scheduled Today With 35 MLAs Oath Ceremony

35 MLAs will take oath as part of West Bengal cabinet expansion on Monday.

West Bengal’s BJP-led government is set to expand its Council of Ministers on Monday, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announcing that 35 MLAs will take oath as ministers in a major cabinet reshuffle. The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to be held at 11 am at Lok Bhavan, where Governor RN Ravi will administer the oath of office.

In a social media post on Sunday evening, Chief Minister Adhikari described the expansion as the formation of a “full-fledged Council of Ministers” of what he termed the “nationalist government elected by the people of West Bengal.” He confirmed that the induction of new ministers would significantly widen the administrative structure of the state government.

The expansion comes three weeks after Adhikari was sworn in as Chief Minister on May 9, in a high-profile ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, senior BJP leadership, and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states. The earlier event marked the formal installation of the BJP government following the assembly election results.

Alongside Adhikari, senior BJP leaders including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Kirtania, and Kshudiram Tudu had earlier taken oath as ministers. With the induction of 35 additional legislators, the total strength of the cabinet is expected to reach 41 members, just short of the maximum permitted size in the 294-member state assembly.

Party sources indicated that the cabinet expansion followed consultations between Adhikari, state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, and the party’s central leadership in New Delhi. The discussions reportedly focused on balancing representation and finalising names for inclusion in the Council of Ministers.

The expanded cabinet is expected to reflect regional and social diversity, with representation drawn from Brahmin, OBC, tribal, Matua, and Rajbanshi communities. The May 9 swearing-in had followed the BJP’s victory with 208 seats in the 294-member assembly, marking the end of the Trinamool Congress’ 15-year rule in the state.
