Vijay Weighs Velachery Or Virugambakkam For Assembly Debut As TVK HQ Sees Rush

Actor-turned-politician Vijay is weighing Velachery and Virugambakkam as possible constituencies for his Assembly election debut, as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) headquarters witnessed heavy crowds of ticket aspirants, leading to congestion and confusion. Party sources said the surge of hopeful candidates has effectively choked access to the office, prompting leadership intervention.

According to TVK insiders, Vijay has been holding internal consultations to assess the political dynamics, voter demographics and organisational strength in both Velachery and Virugambakkam. While no final decision has been taken, the party is keen to ensure that his debut constituency offers a strong platform to project TVK as a serious electoral force in Tamil Nadu politics.

The rush at the party headquarters followed TVK’s announcement inviting applications from prospective candidates across the state. Since early morning, large numbers of party workers and first-time entrants queued up to submit forms, forcing police to step in to manage crowds and traffic in the surrounding areas. Senior leaders later appealed to aspirants to follow staggered schedules to avoid disruption.

Political observers note that Vijay’s choice of constituency will be symbolically important. Velachery, with its mix of middle-class voters and rapid urbanisation, and Virugambakkam, known for its politically active electorate, both offer visibility but come with distinct challenges.
