Vijay Says “Only One Power Centre” Exists As He Takes Charge As Tamil Nadu CM
Vijay becomes Tamil Nadu CM, asserts single power centre authority.
Actor-turned-politician Vijay, who recently took oath as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu representing the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, made a strong assertion of authority in his first official address, declaring that there would be “only one centre of power” in the state. His remarks came shortly after a politically dramatic transition of power that brought his party to leadership with support from multiple alliance partners.
In his speech, Vijay said, “There will be no power centre other than me. I will be the only centre of power,” signalling his intent to maintain full control over decision-making in his government. He emphasised that governance under his leadership would be centralised and decisive, and suggested that his administration would not function under external influence from coalition partners or political pressure groups.
He also addressed political stability and warned against attempts to destabilise the newly formed government. Referring to himself as “Thambi” (younger brother), Vijay stated that he would not allow any wrongdoing within his administration and urged those with “wrong intentions” to abandon such plans. He further added that his government would operate with discipline and accountability, reinforcing his message of strong leadership at the outset of his tenure.

In a notable political gesture, Vijay expressed gratitude to several alliance leaders who supported the formation of his government. He specifically thanked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, along with Mallikarjun Kharge, K. C. Venugopal, and leaders from CPI(M), VCK, CPI, and IUML, acknowledging their role in helping his party secure the required majority. He also referred to Rahul Gandhi as his “brother,” highlighting the importance of alliance cooperation in forming the government.
Vijay further addressed the public directly, describing himself as an ordinary citizen rather than a “special” leader. He said he would not make promises that cannot be delivered and asked for time to implement his agenda gradually. He also assured that his government would act with financial discipline, stating that no public funds would be misused and that transparency would be maintained in governance decisions.
Alongside Vijay, nine ministers from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam were sworn in, including senior figures such as KA Sengottaiyan, strategist Aadhav Arjuna, and media personality Raj Mohan. The cabinet also includes professionals like Dr. TK Prabhu and S. Keerthana, marking a mix of political veterans and new entrants. Meanwhile, supporting alliance parties are expected to finalise their participation in the cabinet after further discussions on portfolio allocation.
