Vijay Promises Tamil Nadu MLAs Cars, ₹1 Lakh Monthly Allowance Ahead Of Election Battle

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has announced that all 234 members of the state Legislative Assembly will be provided with government vehicles along with an allowance for fuel and maintenance expenses. The move is aimed at helping legislators travel to their constituencies and carry out public-facing responsibilities, according to the government. Vijay made the announcement in the Assembly while explaining the need for logistical support for elected representatives. The government said MLAs frequently need to travel within their constituencies to meet residents, address grievances and oversee local issues. "MLAs need to travel to their constituencies frequently to address people's problems. Government vehicle will ensure transparent and corruption free governance," Vijay said while announcing the measure. The announcement came after VCK MLA Jothimani raised concerns over the logistical difficulties faced by legislators. She argued that MLAs could not work effectively without adequate logistical facilities and requested that cars be provided to them. The Tamil Nadu government also pointed to the composition of the current Assembly while justifying the decision.
