Vijay Makes First Public Appearance Since Karur Tragedy, Launches TVK Vision
Actor-politician unleashes fierce attack on ruling party in Kancheepuram.
Actor-turned-politician Vijay made his first public appearance since the tragic Karur stampede that claimed 41 lives, addressing a tightly controlled indoor gathering of 2,000 QR-coded invitees at a private college in Sunguvarchatram near Kancheepuram on Sunday. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief used the platform to launch a blistering offensive against the ruling DMK while unveiling his party’s people-centric vision ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls.
Invoking the legacy of Dravidian icons C.N. Annadurai and MGR, Vijay questioned the current regime’s betrayal of their ideals in Annadurai’s birthplace. He accused the DMK of large-scale illegal sand mining in the Palar river, claiming court and Enforcement Directorate records exposed extraction of 22.7 lakh units worth Rs 4,730 crore. “Those who swear by Periyar and Anna have looted the lifeline of Kancheepuram,” he thundered, promising accountability when TVK comes to power.
Vijay highlighted the plight of Kancheepuram’s iconic handloom weavers earning a mere Rs 500 daily despite global fame, and slammed the government for neglecting the decades-old bus stand and failing Delta farmers during recent floods. He demanded immediate construction of a check dam near Avalur lake and reiterated unwavering support for Parandur farmers opposing the proposed greenfield airport.

The TVK leader brushed aside Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s taunts about policy clarity, rattling off his party’s stands on caste census, opposition to CAA, and demand for education in the State List. He announced key manifesto promises including housing for every family, a motorcycle per household, financial assistance for car purchases, world-class government hospitals, and inclusive governance with direct input from fishermen, weavers, teachers, and government employees.
Ending on a defiant note, Vijay declared that hostility from the ruling party only proved TVK’s rising strength. “They hate us because they know the people are waking up. When we form the government, Tamil Nadu will welcome us with open arms,” he asserted, signalling that his political storm, paused briefly by the Karur tragedy, has now resumed with renewed intensity.
