Vijay Attacks DMK Corruption Over Rs 2,000 Women Summer Payment

Vijay labels DMK's Rs 2,000 women's summer special as a vote-buying tactic.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay intensified his political campaign ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, launching a sharp attack on Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam during a rally in Salem. Addressing a large crowd, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader accused the state government of corruption and misuse of power, urging voters to “blow the whistle” against the ruling party.

Vijay’s speech focused heavily on the DMK’s welfare outreach to women voters. He criticised the reported transfer of ₹3,000 to women beneficiaries as an “advance payment” and questioned the government’s intent behind the move. Framing the contest in stark terms, Vijay asked the audience whether they would support the “good” TVK or the “evil” DMK, drawing loud cheers from supporters.

The remarks also targeted the DMK’s promise of an additional ₹2,000 payment to women under what has been described as a “summer bonanza”. Vijay suggested the proposed benefit appeared linked to the party’s electoral prospects, implying that the payout could be contingent on the DMK returning to power. The ruling party has positioned the scheme as part of its broader social welfare push.

Vijay and his party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, are being closely watched in the run-up to the polls, with political observers describing the outfit as a potential disruptor. Riding on Vijay’s massive popularity in Tamil cinema, the party has sought to position itself as an anti-establishment alternative in the state’s traditionally bipolar political landscape.

The DMK has not issued a detailed response to Vijay’s latest remarks at the time of reporting. With campaigning expected to intensify in the coming weeks, the exchange underscores the increasingly combative tone of Tamil Nadu’s election season, where welfare politics and governance claims are emerging as key battleground issues.
