Veteran CPI Leader Sudhakar Reddy’s Last Rites Honored

Telangana to bid farewell with state honors

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced that the last rites of veteran Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, who passed away on Friday at 83, will be performed with full state honors. The former CPI general secretary and two-time Lok Sabha MP from Mahabubnagar succumbed to age-related ailments in a private Hyderabad hospital.

CM Revanth Reddy directed Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao to make arrangements for the ceremonial farewell, reflecting Sudhakar Reddy’s towering legacy in Indian politics. “He played a pivotal role in Left politics and people’s struggles,” the CM said in a condolence message, highlighting the leader’s contributions at state and national levels. Sudhakar Reddy, who led the CPI from 2012 to 2019, was a key figure in advocating for social justice and workers’ rights.

Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum. Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow, calling Sudhakar Reddy a “senior communist leader” whose death left a void. Opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy praised his indelible mark on undivided Andhra Pradesh politics. BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and other leaders also mourned the loss, with social media posts lauding his lifelong commitment to the marginalized.
