US Defence Secretary Hegseth Says Upcoming Days Will Be Decisive in War Against Iran

Hegseth says he visited US troops in the Middle East as two missiles were intercepted Saturday.

Pete Hegseth on Tuesday said he had recently visited American troops stationed in the Middle East, as tensions surrounding the ongoing conflict with Iran continue to escalate. Speaking at a press briefing at the Pentagon, Hegseth highlighted the significance of the visit and described the coming days as “decisive” in shaping the course of the conflict.

The briefing was held alongside Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, with both officials addressing developments related to the military operation. Hegseth revealed that his visit took place on Saturday, during which he observed operational activities and assessed the preparedness of US forces deployed in the region.

Sharing details from the visit, Hegseth said that two missiles were successfully intercepted during the operation. He also interacted with personnel from the US Air Force and Navy, including service members who had recently returned from active missions over Iranian airspace. The defence secretary emphasised the professionalism and commitment displayed by the troops on the ground.

Reflecting on his conversations with soldiers, Hegseth said he asked several young service members about their needs and expectations. According to him, none of them requested better equipment, improved living conditions, or immediate return home, underscoring their focus on duty despite challenging circumstances.

He acknowledged, however, that such needs are important in the long run, adding that both the government and the troops share those expectations. For now, he stressed that the primary focus remains on the mission and ensuring operational success amid rising geopolitical tensions.

As the situation evolves, Hegseth reiterated that the next few days will be critical in determining the trajectory of the conflict, signalling that the United States is closely monitoring developments while maintaining a strong military presence in the region.
