UP Opposition Demands Equal Development Funds After Rs 5 Crore to BJP MLAs
The UP opposition has raised strong objections over unequal development fund allocation to MLAs. seo
Mata Prasad Pandey, the Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, has accused the state government of unfairly distributing development funds between the ruling party and opposition legislators. In a letter to Yogi Adityanath, Pandey alleged that MLAs from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party were given far higher allocations than opposition members under the Twarit Arthik Vikas Yojana.
According to the letter dated April 29, BJP MLAs were reportedly sanctioned up to Rs 5 crore each for road construction and development works, while opposition MLAs received only Rs 1 crore each. The sharp difference has triggered criticism from opposition parties, who say such funding gaps undermine equal representation and balanced regional growth across the state.
Pandey argued that development cannot be limited only to constituencies represented by the ruling party. He said Uttar Pradesh cannot progress fully if resources are concentrated in select areas while other constituencies are left behind. His remarks framed the issue not just as a political dispute but as a question of fairness and governance.

The opposition leader urged the chief minister to ensure parity in fund allocation in the broader interest of the state. He said equal grants should be provided to opposition MLAs as well so that all regions can receive infrastructure support, especially for roads and public works that directly affect citizens’ daily lives.
The controversy could intensify political debate in Uttar Pradesh, where development spending often becomes a key issue ahead of future elections. If the allegations gain traction, the government may face pressure to clarify the criteria used for distributing funds and whether all constituencies are being treated equally.
