UP Father Shoots Son Dead Suspecting Rs 10 Lakh Contract to Kill Him
Sunder Tyagi arrested after shooting son Tushar dead near Meerut highway underpass.
A 23-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his father in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district following a family dispute and suspicions of a contract killing plot, police said. The victim, identified as Tushar Tyagi, was found dead inside a vehicle near the Panchi underpass in the Khar Khoda area late on June 1. Investigators have arrested the victim's father, Sunder Tyagi, and one of his associates in connection with the murder. Authorities say the case was solved within 24 hours of the body being discovered, following an intensive investigation involving multiple police teams.
According to police, information about the incident was received through the emergency Dial-112 service around midnight. Officers arriving at the scene found Tushar Tyagi's body inside a parked vehicle with gunshot injuries. Following a complaint lodged by the victim's wife, Shikha, a murder case was registered, and special investigation teams were formed under the supervision of senior police officials. The investigation focused on collecting technical evidence, reviewing surveillance footage, and examining physical evidence recovered from the crime scene.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Abhijeet Kumar said investigators traced the movements of the accused through CCTV footage and other digital evidence. The probe revealed that Sunder Tyagi had traveled from Dehradun to Kankerkhera on the day of the incident before proceeding to the Kaili area with his associate, Amit, alias Vedwan. Surveillance footage allegedly showed both the victim's SUV and the accused's vehicle traveling together before the crime occurred, helping investigators establish a sequence of events leading up to the murder.

During questioning, police concluded that Sunder Tyagi was traveling in the same vehicle as his son at the time of the incident. Investigators allege that he shot Tushar Tyagi during the journey before abandoning the body and vehicle near the underpass. Authorities claim the accused then fled the scene with assistance from accomplices. Amit alias Vedwan has also been arrested, while efforts are continuing to locate and apprehend another suspect believed to be involved in the case.
Police said the motive behind the killing appears to be rooted in a prolonged family dispute. According to investigators, Sunder Tyagi suspected that his son had paid ₹10 lakh to arrange his murder through hired individuals. The accused also allegedly claimed that the victim frequently assaulted family members, further contributing to tensions within the household. Officials stressed that these allegations are part of the ongoing investigation and will be examined as evidence is gathered.
Authorities have also disclosed that Sunder Tyagi has a criminal history and was previously listed as a history-sheeter at Hapur Dehat police station. Police records indicate that several criminal cases, including murder-related charges, have been registered against him in the past. The investigation remains ongoing, with officers continuing to collect evidence and pursue additional leads. Police officials have stated that further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation and the outcome of judicial proceedings.
