Union Home Minister Amit Shah Targets Punjab AAP Government Ahead Of Moga Rally
Amit Shah criticises Punjab AAP government over corruption and crime ahead of BJP’s ‘Badlav’ rally in Moga.
Ahead of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Badlav’ rally in Moga on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, accusing it of fostering corruption, drug abuse, and rising crime across the state. Shah asserted that the people of Punjab are seeking “badlav” (change) in governance and leadership.
In a post on social media platform X, Shah wrote, “Every person in Punjab wants change. Because the sacred land of Punjab, known for its soldiers, farmers and hardworking people, has been drowned in corruption, drugs, and crime by the 'Aap-da' government.” He emphasised that both development and effective governance have been missing under what he described as a “remotely controlled” administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Shah said the BJP is eager to connect with the people of Punjab during the rally, which marks the beginning of the party’s political campaign ahead of the expected 2027 Assembly elections. “Today, we are very eager to engage in dialogue with the sisters and brothers of Punjab at the BJP's 'Badlav' rally in Moga,” he added.

The rally is scheduled to take place at Killi Chahlan village in Moga, located in the politically influential Malwa belt of Punjab. The region, which accounts for 69 of the state’s 117 Assembly seats, is considered decisive in shaping electoral outcomes. Extensive arrangements have been made to accommodate the expected crowds for the event.
In February, the same venue hosted an AAP rally led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and party national convener Arvind Kejriwal. Observers note that the BJP is positioning the Moga rally as a direct counter to the AAP’s influence in the region.
Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma claimed that public sentiment in the state now favours the BJP as a credible alternative. He stated that voters have already begun signalling their intent to remove the AAP government in the 2027 Assembly elections, underscoring the high stakes of the upcoming political contest.
