UDF Secures Strong Mandate in Kerala as Leaders Welcome Verdict

UDF’s strong Kerala mandate is hailed by Priyanka Gandhi and AK Antony as a turning point in state politics.

As the United Democratic Front (UDF) secured a decisive electoral mandate in Kerala, senior Congress leaders described the outcome as a significant political turning point and a clear endorsement of the alliance’s promise of governance renewal. Early trends from the Election Commission indicated that the UDF crossed the majority mark with 102 seats, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) was reduced to 35 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 3 seats, signalling a major shift in the state’s political balance.

Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who actively campaigned across Kerala, thanked voters for what she called “overwhelming support” and a reaffirmation of public trust in the UDF alliance. She said the mandate would serve as a guiding force for the coalition over the next five years, stressing that the alliance would work with “honesty and humility” to fulfil its promises. Her remarks positioned the victory as both a political endorsement and a responsibility to deliver governance reforms.

Priyanka Gandhi also highlighted the strong support received in Wayanad, where the UDF reportedly won all seven Assembly constituencies. She noted that the district’s electorate had delivered a clear and unified mandate, adding that eight representatives would now work collectively for the region’s development. Her message emphasised coordination between elected leaders to address local development needs and strengthen public service delivery across the constituency.

Veteran Congress leader and former Defence Minister A.K. Antony also described the outcome as a strong rejection of the CPI(M)-led Left government. Thanking voters, he said the result reflected public desire for change and prevented what he termed the risks of a third consecutive Left term. Antony stressed that the Congress and its allies would now focus on rebuilding governance structures and restoring administrative efficiency in the state.

The coordinated response from senior UDF leaders underscored the alliance’s effort to frame the verdict not just as an electoral win, but as a mandate for systemic governance change. Party leaders emphasised the need to convert political momentum into effective policy implementation while maintaining unity within the coalition. The emphasis on stability and development signals the alliance’s intent to consolidate its position after a decisive return to power in Kerala’s evolving political landscape.
