UDF Leads Kerala 2026 Assembly Trends, LDF Trails In Counting
UDF leads Kerala Assembly trends with 69 seats in counting.
The counting of votes for the 140-member Kerala Assembly has placed the United Democratic Front (UDF), led by the Indian National Congress, in a strong early position, as trends around 4 pm showed the alliance leading in 69 constituencies. Meanwhile, the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), headed by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), was trailing with leads in 22 seats.
The election, held in a single phase on April 9, has seen fluctuating leads as counting progresses, reflecting a closely contested political battle in the state. With the majority mark set at 71 seats, the UDF’s early advantage places it within striking distance of forming government, though final outcomes remain subject to change as more rounds are completed.
According to constituency-wise trends, a wide range of results has already emerged across Kerala. The CPI(M) has registered wins in constituencies such as Alathur, Attingal, Beypore, Chelakkara, Kalliasseri, and Kunnamkulam, indicating pockets of continued support for the LDF. However, several of these gains have been offset by losses in other regions as the broader trend tilts in favour of the opposition alliance.

The UDF has secured victories in key constituencies including Balusseri, Chittur, Ernakulam, Ettumanoor, Haripad, Idukki, Kalpetta, Karunagappally, Kottayam, and Kollam. The Congress and its allies have also performed strongly in several central and southern districts, suggesting a consolidated push against the ruling front across multiple regions.
Regional parties within both alliances have also played a decisive role in shaping outcomes. The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has registered wins in constituencies such as Kasaragod, Koduvally, Kozhikode South, and Kunnamangalam, while the Kerala Congress (M) has secured victories in Changanassery, Irinjalakkuda, Kaduthuruthy, and Kothamangalam. The Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) has also retained influence in seats like Chavara and Eravipuram.
Despite the statewide trend favouring the UDF, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is maintaining a lead in his home constituency of Dharmadom by over 1,500 votes, indicating strong personal support even as the LDF faces broader setbacks.Kerala recorded a voter turnout of 79.63%, underscoring strong electoral participation. Exit polls had earlier predicted a possible UDF resurgence after nearly a decade in opposition, and the ongoing counting trends appear to be aligning with those projections, though the final result will depend on the remaining constituencies.
