Twisha Sharma’s Husband Placed In 5-Day CBI Custody Over Ongoing Investigation

CBI intensifies investigation after court grants custody of key accused.

A district court in Bhopal on Friday sent former district judge Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh to five-day custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the alleged dowry death case of actor-model Twisha Sharma. The order was passed after both accused were produced before the court under heavy security arrangements following separate medical examinations.

According to court proceedings, Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh appeared before Sessions Judge Shobhana Bhalavi after being brought to the courtroom by investigating officials. Observers present during the hearing said the mother and son stood together in the accused enclosure and briefly spoke to each other while the matter was being heard.

The CBI arrested Giribala Singh on Thursday after conducting several hours of questioning at her residence in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. Following her arrest, officials took her for medical examination at a special medical facility established at the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology campus before presenting her before the court.

Samarth Singh, meanwhile, had earlier been arrested by Bhopal Police from Jabalpur on May 22 after reportedly remaining untraceable for nearly a week following Twisha Sharma’s death on May 12. He was initially produced before a Judicial Magistrate First Class court on May 23, which had remanded him to police custody until May 29 before the CBI sought fresh custody for further interrogation.

Investigators allege that Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence in Katara Hills. Her family subsequently accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to dowry harassment, prompting demands for a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The case has attracted significant public attention due to the involvement of a former judicial officer and the serious allegations raised by the victim’s family.

After taking over the probe on the recommendation of the Madhya Pradesh government, the CBI conducted a forensic inspection at the residence with assistance from a specialised team from Delhi. Officials carried out photography, videography and evidence collection at the alleged crime scene while questioning Samarth Singh about the events leading up to the incident. Giribala Singh’s arrest came shortly after the Madhya Pradesh High Court rejected her interim bail plea on Thursday.
