Trump Says Missile Behind Deadly Iran School Strike May Not Be American

Trump comments on disputed responsibility for school attack.

A deadly airstrike on a girls’ school in Minab has resurfaced in global political debate after comments from US President Donald Trump raised fresh uncertainty over responsibility for the incident. The strike, which took place on February 28 during the opening day of the Iran conflict, reportedly killed more than 175 children and teachers. The event remains one of the most controversial episodes of the war involving Iran, drawing sustained international scrutiny and calls for accountability.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said it may never be possible to determine conclusively who was responsible for the strike, citing the chaotic conditions of the conflict. He noted that multiple missile launches were occurring at the time, making attribution difficult. Trump added that while some claims suggested US involvement, he had not seen evidence to support that conclusion and did not believe American forces intentionally carried out the attack.

The remarks come shortly after Trump acknowledged that the Minab school strike may have been a “mistake” and not a deliberate act. Earlier statements had suggested, without publicly presented evidence, that Iran could have been responsible. His shifting position has added further complexity to an already disputed incident that continues to generate diplomatic and investigative attention.

According to earlier reports, an internal US military assessment suggested that American forces were likely responsible for the strike, potentially due to outdated targeting data used during operations. The Pentagon has since expanded its inquiry, though it has not publicly confirmed any preliminary findings or issued a final determination regarding responsibility. Officials have maintained that investigations are ongoing and that conclusions remain pending.

The strike has drawn widespread condemnation due to the high number of civilian casualties, particularly children, and the targeting of a school. International humanitarian law prohibits deliberate attacks on educational institutions, and US officials have consistently stated that civilian facilities are not intentionally targeted. The United Nations human rights office described the incident as “absolutely horrific,” calling for a thorough and transparent investigation.

The controversy continues to influence broader diplomatic dynamics between Washington and Tehran, as both sides engage in discussions aimed at stabilizing relations following the conflict. However, the Minab school strike remains a major unresolved issue, with pressure mounting for clarity, accountability, and a definitive investigation into one of the war’s most tragic incidents.
