Trump Says Downing Of US Jet Will Not Affect Iran Negotiations

Trump says US aircraft downing won’t disrupt Iran talks amid ongoing war.

Donald Trump has said the downing of a United States military aircraft by Iran will not impact ongoing diplomatic efforts, asserting that negotiations can continue despite escalating hostilities between the two countries.

Speaking in an interview, Trump dismissed concerns that the incident could derail talks, stating, “No, not at all. No, it’s war. We’re in war.” His remarks marked his first public response after a US fighter jet was shot down during the ongoing conflict.

The aircraft, identified in reports as an F-15E fighter jet, was brought down over Iranian territory, prompting an immediate search-and-rescue operation. One crew member has been rescued, while efforts are still underway to locate the second, with officials describing the mission as sensitive and complex.

Trump declined to provide operational details about the rescue efforts, citing security concerns, and expressed frustration with media coverage of the situation. He suggested that reporting had not fully captured the complexity of the military operation currently underway.

The development comes amid intensifying conflict in West Asia, where military actions and back-channel diplomacy are unfolding simultaneously. While Washington has indicated a willingness to pursue negotiations, reports suggest that talks aimed at securing a ceasefire have faced setbacks, with Iran rejecting certain proposals and delaying planned discussions.

Iranian media have claimed responsibility for targeting US aircraft near strategic locations such as the Strait of Hormuz, though some of these claims remain unverified. The situation continues to evolve as both sides maintain military operations alongside intermittent diplomatic engagement.

The incident underscores the fragile balance between conflict and diplomacy, with the downing of the aircraft highlighting the risks of escalation even as leaders publicly signal openness to negotiations.
